Middelfart offers a wide variety of attractions: Museums, water sports, nature experiences and excellent shopping options – not to mention Bridgewalking, where you can see it all from the top of the Old Little Belt Bridge.
The following is a top 10 list of attractions in Middelfart. See all. Be sure to also see our online booking, where you will find a wide range of summer holiday experiences.
Middelfart’s biggest and highest attraction is undoubtedly Bridgewalking. Bridgewalking is the perfect place to start your visit to Middlefart. The guided tour takes participants to the top of the Old Little Belt Bridge for stunning panoramic views of the entire region from a height of 60 metres.
An absolute MUST for the entire family when visiting Middelfart is a trip at sea to experience the beautiful Little Belt by boat, where you will encounter one of the world’s densest whale populations. Venture on a whale safari and see the small whale, the porpoise, at close range – the captain guarantees a whale sighting. Listening gear will also be set up if the conditions are right, so you can hear the porpoises’ amazing clicking sounds under the water.
Nature lovers will enjoy the many (free) experiences at Hindsgavl Peninsula. Explore the beautiful scenery of the peninsula on your own, where you will find many excellent paths for walking, biking or horseback riding. The Nature Centre at the entrance to Hindsgavl Peninsula and Deer Park is a good place to start and serves as the focal point for the many activities on the peninsula. From the centre you can embark on a Deer Hike or participate in the Hunting Day or Nature’s Day events. The Nature Centre is also home to an expansive natural playground and “Tarzan” course.
During the summer season, playful children and adults flock to Middelfart Marina. Here you will find Stand Up Paddle (SUP), and Sit-On-Top kayaking. You can also try your hand at windsurfing. Children and adults can also enjoy the free activity “Pet a fish and kiss a crab” every Tuesday at the marina.
Make sure to plan on spending at least two hours when you take a trip to Humlemagasinet in Harndrup, which features an array of beautiful gardens and museums in one place. For example, see the beautiful doll collection with more than 100 royal porcelain figures, the changing exhibitions or the impressive collection of foreign and domestic beers – or discover the history of local poet and songwriter Sigfred Pedersen. Humlemagasinet has plenty of air and outdoor space, where the whole family can enjoy the seven beautiful gardens, including Funen’s largest Hops Garden, the Apple Garden, and the English Rose Garden.
Middelfart Museum features exhibits including the Psychiatric Collection & Henner Friiser’s Home Visit. From 1888 until 1999, the beautiful area of Teglgaards Park was a “city in the city” and home to the “Middelfart Insane Asylum”. The museum’s very authentic Psychiatric Collection is housed in one of the former patient buildings. In Middelfart’s Old Town, visitors of all ages will be enchanted by the city’s well-preserved Renaissance house from around the year 1580, Henner Friiser’s House. After a major restoration, the exhibit now recounts the building’s past as an inn and the town of Middelfart in the 1800s. On the first floor you can meet the city’s porpoise hunters, see their hunting equipment, learn about the biology of the porpoise and try your hand as a porpoise hunter in an interactive game.
Discover the unique and varied underwater ecosystem of the Little Belt. Excellent options for wall dives, drift diving and deep dives directly from the beach make Little Belt one of northern Europe’s best diving spots. First-time divers can take our popular test dive from Søbadet, where expert instructors will guide you on an underwater adventure. From here you can dive on “the wall” or along the stone reef and underwater trail at Søbadet. You can also embark on a snorkelling adventure – on your own or with an instructor – at Middelfart’s new snorkelling trail by Grimmermosehuset. Fænø Park offers rental of full snorkelling equipment for just DKK 50 per adult or child per day, which includes a wetsuit, mask, snorkel and flippers.
